In March 2026, Jeune Afrique magazine published its exclusive ranking of the top 500 African companies outside the financial sector. Never before had the combined turnover of these companies reached such a high level, driven by the gradual easing of monetary turmoil across the continent and the strong performance of certain commodities. Jeune Afrique’s 2026 ranking of the 500 African Champions shows that the continent’s largest companies have a combined turnover of 783 billion dollars. This ranking, which includes pan-African giants such as Dangote Cement, Sonangol and Glencore, also provides a measure of the role played by Tunisian companies in the continent’s economic fabric. The publication of this ranking comes against a backdrop of regional tension, marked by the repercussions of the war in the Middle East on African economies, notably through the closure of several airspaces and logistical disruptions for companies across the continent, including those in Tunisia.
